The Rhodesian Ridgeback is and intelligent and independent dog who can be at the same time frustrating, entertaining, and rewarding. Start training him early at age and he will be well-bred. This dog has hunting roots and a high prey drive. He can chase cats and other animals, that is why your yard should be securely fenced. He is active and exuberant but usually quieter with getting older. This dog is protective of his home because he will always signal you about a stranger in the yard with imposing barking. He is suspicious with strangers but affectionate and gentle with family members. The average lifespan of the Rhodesian Ridgeback is 10 to 12 years.
